Sotheby's International Realty
Sanoj Stephen joined Sotheby’s International Realty in 2004 and has served as senior vice president and general counsel of the brand’s company-owned brokerage operation since 2006. In November 2019, he assumed additional responsibility for advising the brand’s franchisor entity. He manages the company’s legal department and is responsible for all legal matters impacting the company. Stephen works closely with senior management, advising on corporate strategy, corporate transactions, brand identity standards, affiliate relationships, litigation and regulatory matters.
Prior to joining Sotheby’s International Realty, Stephen was a corporate attorney in New York with Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel, LLP, where he advised public and private companies. Through a pro bono initiative between Kramer Levin and South Brooklyn Legal Services, he worked as a litigator in the legal services office, representing clients in housing court and various state agency proceedings. Stephen has also worked in the general counsel’s office of Newmark & Company Real Estate, Inc., as well as the New York offices of Ropes & Gray LLP (formerly known as Reboul, MacMurray, Hewitt, Maynard & Kristol).
Stephen is an officer of the Corporate Counsel Section of the New York State Bar Association. He has served on the Board of Trustees and the Board of Governors of Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), including as President of HOBY’s Board of Trustees from 2015 to 2016.
Stephen earned his J.D. from Fordham Law School and his B.A., cum laude, from Columbia University.
